19 August 2025
“PANARIE”, a cultural magazine founded in Friuli in 1924, recently published an article by Luigi Deciani, owner of the Villa Gallici Deciani, which is a personal memoir of his mother, Giulia Cattaneo di Sedrano, who was born in the early 20th century and died prematurely in 1968 when Luigi was only eleven years old. The article chronicles her extraordinary life journey from Sicily to Germany in the 1930s, her experiences during WWII including service as a Red Cross nurse on the Russian front, her involvement in the Italian Resistance, and later life in South Africa before returning to Italy. The narrative spans major historical events and presents her as a strong, independent woman who navigated through various challenges with courage and determination.
The article (in Italian) is featured at pages 84-88.
